Ποιος audiophile δεν λατρευει να φτιαχνει playlists (η εξέλιξη του κάποτε αγαπημένου mixtape); Οριακά πριν χάσεις το πλοίο και εσύ να προσπαθείς να τελειοποιήσεις το playlist για τις διακοπές. Κυριακή περασμένα μεσάνυχτα και ακόμα να μην έχεις αποφασίσει με ποια τραγούδια θα πας παρέα στη δουλεία την εβδομάδα που έρχεται. Ώρες ατελείωτες για να καταλήξεις ποιοι στίχοι και ποιες μελωδίες μετά απο χρόνια θα τις ακούς και θα σου θυμίζουν το καλοκαίρι, τη χρονιά, την κοπελα, την εποχη που έφυγε... The Qemist - Join the Q

The Qemists – 2009’s underground dance music superstars. One of the most eagerly awaited debut album of next year, “Join The Q” meshes the high energy of drum’n’bass and rock with a wide-ranging set of sounds that betray the fact that the mysterious trio were a band before they took to the decks. Dancehall, metal, electro, grime and hip hop all make their presence known across the album thanks to a host of respected guest vocalists. It’s like ram raiding the best record shop in West London with your Saxo’s ICE turned up to drown out the alarm.

The Qems have hooked up with the most established names in their fields. UK champion beatboxer Beardyman meanwhile follows hosting Fatboy Slim’s Big Beach Boutique with “Soundface”, a jaw-dropping accapella track like nothing that’s come before. There’s also a huge host of names from the drum’n’bass scene, from Jenna G, the queen of d’n’b, to veteran MC Navigator, via Friction’s mouthpiece MC ID. It’s a vote of confidence that confirms what clubbers up and down the country already know: The Qemists are the real deal. Chase and Status, Pendulum and Mampi Swift have all been raving about them on the scene, while on Radio 1 Zane Lowe called them “the future of music, what The Prodigy hinted at.” Even Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson has given them the rock seal of approval.

'Heaven' was used in the acclaimed skate film Fully Flared directed by Spike Jonze and Ty Evans. The collaboration inspired the directors to take footage and re-edit a sequence of shots that shows the Lakai skateboarding team demonstrating their considerable skills as they navigate through and around various exploding obstacles. With 'Heaven' as the musical backdrop, the resulting marriage of sound to picture is quite extraordinary.

Actress Keira Knightley is seen suffering a brutal assault in a new advertisement highlighting the issue of domestic violence.

The two minute TV and cinema ad, for the charity Women’s Aid, shows the star being beaten by her partner after she returns home from a film set.

Είναι δύσκολο να ξεχωρίσεις τις καλυτερες στιγμές της χθεσινοβραδυνής συναυλίας του Παύλου Παυλίδη και των B Movies. Αν και Πεμπτη βράδυ το Gagarin απο τις 10 είχε ήδη γεμίσει και η ουρά στο ταμείο όλο και και μεγάλωνε. Λίγο μετα τις 10:30 ο Johny Cash χαμηλώνει, τα φώτα σβήνουν και οι ενισχυτές ανάβουν.

Για περισσότερο απο 3,5 ώρες το Ελληνικό Ροκ πάνω σε μια Σπασμένη Πολυθρόνα και παρέα με τον Μόχα ταξίδεψε 10 χρόνια πίσω για να δει τη Φωτιά στο Λιμάνι και να βρει την Ατλαντίς. Για να τραγουδήσει ένα Παράξενο Τραγούδι με τον Βασιλιά της Σκόνης και μετα Με μια Ματιά σαν Βροχή να χαθέι στη Σιωπή...

The Jazz Funk Project

If you feel a bit like jazzy tonight, then you could give a try to the Junky Fuzz Project. A Jazz-Funk quartet formed in late 2008 in Barcelona, with various influences from John Scofield and Joshua Redman to Kurt Rosenwinkel. On their MySpace you can check out some tunes from a rough recording of a rehearsal, in their studio in Barcelona. So far they have not issued any album but I'm sure they will have some new goodies for us soon...

Alias & Tarsier - Brooklyn/Oakland

Brendon 'Alias' Whitney lives in Oakland. This is where in 1998 and with 300 bucks he set off the Anticon label. A label whose artists have been described by many as "the hip-hop equivalent of post-rock," and "avant-garde hip-hop".

In October of 2003, Alias released his instrumental LP debut, entitled Muted, and on December 31, he got an excited email from Rona 'Tarsier' Rapadas. Rona was living at Brooklyn at that time and she was playing at the electronic duo, Healamonster & Tarsier. The album hadn't left her side for a month. She'd been singing along with the melodies and writing lyrics for the wordless moodpieces and would he consider doing a remix with her and would he mind giving her group's stuff a listen? Alias wrote back the next day, sending her four beats and asking her to wirte lyrics add vocals and see where they would end up. And that's how the Brooklyn/Oakland album started shaping...

Finally, after 21 months of email communication the album was completed. Although they were living 3,000 miles far from each other and having never met face-to-face, Alias & Tarsier managed to create an amazing trip-hop album. Tarsier's voice and Alias samples are maybe the best company for a road trip from Brookly to Oakland...

New single for Depeche Mode. If the rest of the album is gonna be that aggresive, catchy and lyrical as "Wrong", then the band is probably preparing a smashing come-back!

Καινούριο single από τους ARCHIVE, το πρώτο από τον επερχόμενο δίσκο τους "Controlled Crowds". Δεν θέλω να συζητήσουμε αν το ύφος του ταιριάζει στην μπάντα, αν είναι πιο εμπορικό απ'ότι έχουμε συνηθίσει, ούτε κάτι άλλο. Το άκουσα πρώτη φορά κάνοντας μια γρήγορη βόλτα με το αυτοκίνητο...και για μένα είναι φτιαγμένο για να το ζω έτσι..Δοκιμασέ το κι εσύ...ή βρες του το δικό σου χώρο για να ζήσει...

Τι θα λέγατε για έναν χαρούμενο hip hop δισκο με πολύ funk και dub-reaggea ήχους που σκοπό έχει να διαδώσει θετική πλευρά του hip hop;

Ο εν λόγω δίσκος είναι μια συλλογή απο δίαφορες συνεργασίες Eλλήνων και ξένων MCs, DJs και μουσικών οι οποίοι προσκλήθηκαν για συναυλία στην Ελλάδα από τη Zoltan Tribe, και με την ευκαιρία, άφησαν και το δικό τους μουσικό στίγμα σε αυτή τη συλλογή. Καλλιτεχνες όπως ο Εισβολέας, οι Professional Sinnerz, o θρυλικός μπασίστας Γιώτης Κιουρτζόγλου (Human Touch), ο Aktarv8r (frontman των Asian Dub Foundation), ο Τακι Τσαν, ο Οδυσσέας των ιστορικών Raazastar, ο DJ Alx, o DJ Everlast και πολύ άλλοι συμμετέχουν.

Απο πέρισυ περιμενα την συλλογή αυτή η οποία τελικά φέτος τέλη Σεπτέμβρη κυκλοφόρησε. Μην περιμένετε να την βρείτε ευκολα στο Internet ή ακόμα και σε γνωστά δισκάδικα. Στην Αθήνα την φέρνει μονο το vinyl microstore και νομίζω αξίζει να δώσετε τα 12 ευρώ για να την αγοράσετε. Σε εμένα πάντως απο χτες το απογεύμα παιζει στο repeat...

Revived 45 heads for 60th birthday

Sales of the vinyl single are now back up above the million mark in the UK. Figures for seven-inch discs, which have now risen to more than one million a year.

But who is actually buying all these singles? According to the British Phonographic Industry, which represents the British music business, a new generation of bands is attracting younger buyers. The BPI says the "popularity of bands such as Oasis, White Stripes [and] Arctic Monkeys" is reviving sales of the seven-inch, while record companies are also credited with using "innovative" strategies to highlight the format. In 2007, the White Stripes and their label, XL Recordings, gave away a red vinyl single mounted on the cover of the NME weekly music magazine.

It came in a gatefold sleeve with space to hold the band's commercial release, Icky Thump - a promotion that resulted in the highest sales for a vinyl seven-inch in more than two decades.
